The Manhattan

There’s a lovely story about this bartender favourite being invented by Winston Churchill’s Mum. It puts the inception at soiree at the Manhattan Club. It might have been true too if she weren’t in France at the time pregnant with Winston.

All we actually know is from an interview with the bartender from the Manhattan club at the time. He tells us it was invented at a New York bar on Broadway near Huston Street by a man named Black.

INGREDIENTS

• 45ml Wild Turkey 101
• 20ml Cinzano Rosso
• 2 dashes bitters

TO MIX

• Stir quickly in a mixing glass filled with ice for two minutes
• Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a cherry and orange twist.
